Description
The metaSETZ RU-2 Relay Unit is designed to interface the TLC-8D, TLC-6S, TLC-4S and TLC-8S tally controllers (or the LS variants) with most CCUs (Camera Control Units) that need a dry contact closure to activate the tally lights on the camera or to monitors the need the same. It will also work with the TLC-U controller.
The RU-2 connects to the controller using the supplied short Ethernet style cable and to the CCU using the supplied 1/8″ (3.5mm) ‘pigtail’ cable. Unless the CCU uses screw terminals you will need to attach the appropriate connector to the bare wires on the pigtail.
CCUs come with many different tally connectors. You might have anything from screw terminals to DB15, DB15HD, DB25 connectors, 7 pin XLRs or one of various DIN connectors so refer to your CCU’s documentation for hookup information. Many times the tallys are combined on a multi-pin connector with intercom or other signals.
Pig Tail Color Code
The pigtail you received might come with different color coding but there should be a tag with the actual colors. The cables shipping at the time of this writing are coded like this:
Green = Ground / Common
Red = Red Program Tally
White = Green Preview Tally
Note: The TLC-8D and some versions of the TLC-U only support the red program tally but not the green preview tally.
The polarity of the connection should be observed, getting it reversed will cause both the program and preview tallys illuminating together.
